TWA Oct. 16-20 | WordFest, Computing Challenge, Clubs, Webinar
Dear Parents and Guardians,
With WORDFEST happening in Calgary this week (https://wordfest.com/), all grade 6 classes were invited to a special event at the Central Library to listen to a presentation by Canadian author David Robertson (https://www.darobertson.ca/). The students had a great time visiting the beautiful Central Library and listening to a writer who some of our students had already knew. Thank you to the Grade 6 team under the leadership of Sra. Moreno for organizing this exciting and educational trip which connected literacy in the classroom with a living author and providing a real-life literacy experience for our students.
In other news, the soccer boys beat Branton.
Have a great weekend! Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal.

Students in Grade 6 are invited to register for The Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC) which will happen on November 6 at lunchtime in Room 31. The Beaver Computing Challenge (BCC) introduces computer science to students. It's designed to get students with little or no previous experience excited about computing. The challenge is an initiative from The Centre for Mathematics and Computing Education (University of Waterloo) to encourage students to develop skills in big-picture thinking and problem solving. The challenge is completed digitally, and no experience/practice is required. Students’ math teachers will provide details on how to sign up. Pre-registration will run between October 10th to 31st.

Teacher Introductions
This week, please meet our new Grade 6 teacher, Sra. Allepuz.
¡Hola a todos! I'm Miriam Allepuz, also known as Sra. Allepuz, and I'm a new member of the SPB community. Originally hailing from Spain, I made the move to Canada four years ago to pursue what I'm most passionate about: teaching my native language and promoting our rich culture. After gaining experience as an educator in various elementary schools in Calgary, I feel incredibly fortunate to have landed in this fantastic school.
When I'm not in the classroom, you'll often find me engrossed in the novels of Ken Follett or exploring the scenic mountains of Alberta. I love activities like trail running, hiking, downhill and cross-country skiing, and essentially anything that involves having fun outdoors. What makes these experiences even more special is sharing them with my family: my husband, my baby daughter, and our beloved pup.
I really appreciate the warm atmosphere that I've experienced from the very first day at this school, and I'm incredibly enthusiastic about what lies ahead in the upcoming year!

Child and Youth Well-Being:
A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.
Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.
The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.
Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.
Sincerely,
Harald Ludwigsen
Principal
