TWA Nov. 27 - Dec. 1 | Valuables, Homework Club, Morpheus Theatre, GSA Art Submissions, Carlos Plata
Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week Grade 6 students had the incredible opportunity to tour Crescent Heights High School and had the Grade 10 and 11 students be their Spanish teachers for the day while playing board games that targeted grammar and listening to stories written by grade 11 students. All our Broncos (former and present) made us very proud! Thank you, Grade 6 Team, for organizing this amazing trip.
In other news which I already shared with you: Our Senior Boys will be playing against FEO I the Senior Basketball Final tonight and I hope to see you there.
Have a good weekend. Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal

Valuables at School
Please have a conversation with your child about keeping valuables safe at school. Part of the reason that we want technology to be locked away all day is that valuables do not get lost or misplaced. Students will also need to ensure that they properly lock their locker and do not share their combination with other students. Thank you for your support.
Homework Club
We have several peer tutors available to help in all subjects. If your student is interested in being paired with a tutor, contact Sra. Webb at mswebb@cbe.ab.ca.
Cross Country Opportunity
- Stuff Your Stocking Holiday Run-Dec. 10th at Bowness Park. This is a 5km run or walk. For more information, follow the link attached.

Gay Straight Alliance Call for Art Submissions Calling all Artists!
The Gay Straight Alliance is here to announce an exciting project for artists who would like to show their support for the Gay Straight Alliance and our wonderful 2SLGBTQIA+ community! Allies and community members alike are welcome to submit artworks to be displayed in the upcoming winter arts showcase on December 7, 2023. So what is the theme you ask? As we want to celebrate the beauty of the community, your artwork should explore the theme of identity using either:
- The colours from the pride flag or
- The colours from the 2LGBTQIA+ flag you identify with
Artworks can be 2D, 3D or digital - whatever medium you love working with! In addition to your artwork, we ask that you submit a brief artist statement explaining your piece of art, why you chose to create it, why you used the techniques you did etc. You can include as much or as little personal details as you would like - it is up to you and your comfort level. If you would like to use your name you can, but you can also submit your work using a pen name or anonymously.
If you are interested, please use the following link to fill out a google form so we know that you would like to participate and what you are planning to make.

Please be assured that unless you indicate that you would like your name displayed, all submissions will be anonymous to ensure everyone feels comfortable and safe.
Thank you all for your participation and support, and we cannot wait to see the beautiful artworks that you create!
Cheers,

Teacher Introductions
This week, please meet our new(ish) Grade 8 teacher, Carlos Plata:
Dear SPB family,
It brings me profound joy to return to the SPB family as a Grade 8 teacher for Humanities and Spanish Language Arts. My educational journey, which has been heavily influenced by my experiences in Canada, started 20 years ago when I arrived to this country. During this time, I have developed an immense appreciation for the Canadian education system and its success helping create one of the strongest democracies on the planet.
As a passionate student of philosophy of education, I strongly believe in the integral role that public education fulfills promoting community integration and democratizing access to knowledge. Establishing connections within the community between parents, educators, administrator and support staff is critical to create a robust support network for our students. Which in turn, improves the sense of security within the classroom. As a public educator, I see my role as a nurturer of a classroom community based on empathy, comprehension and shared enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.
I would like to extend my gratitude to the SPB family for this warm welcome back. I eagerly anticipate the upcoming year with enthusiasm for all the learning opportunities it will bring.
Sincerely, Carlos Plata
