Dear Parents and Guardians,

We had a fantastic turnout for our first SPB School Council meeting and the Parent Association this week. All positions have been filled and I am delighted to share with you that Henry Yu will be the new School Council Chair taking over from Ted Bahr. Amanda Vanin is our new Parent Association Chair taking leadership of this very important council in our school. Thank you to everyone who has been involved with our School Council and Parent Association in the past and a big thank you to the new teams, we look forward to working with you this year. Terry Fox Run at SPB

Terry Fox Run

Thank you to everyone for their support and enthusiasm to make this Terry Fox event a success this year! As a school, we have raised over $2550 for Terry Fox and cancer research!! We also ran a total of over 3,048 laps!! This is amazing!!!

Senator Patrick Burns Parent Association 2024/2025

Senator Patrick Burns has both a Parent Council and a Parent Association. The Parent Association is responsible for fundraising and distributing fundraising dollars for the school. All parents are welcome to attend our meetings. Meetings are typically held the third Wednesday of the month directly following the parent council meetings. They are virtual and usually short and sweet!

We are planning a great year to raise funds for ‘extras’ at the school. The money raised is used for items like physical education equipment, outdoor education equipment, classroom supports, and much more. We have been able to help with band instruments and the new basketball court. Your funds make a difference for the children at the school.

For the upcoming year we are planning:

  • Apples (Sun Oka) in September,
  • Spolumbo’s / Coco Brooks in the fall and spring
  • Christmas Flowers (Growing Smiles) in late fall
  • Spring Flowers (Growing Smiles) in the spring

If you would like to donate to the parent association, but do not wish to participate in fundraisers, it is possible to write a cheque instead. Cheques would be made payable to: Senator Patrick Burns Parent Association. If you require a tax receipt, you will have to contact the school directly to donate through the Education Matters program.

Our next Casino will not be until 2025 at the earliest. Volunteering at the casino has a huge impact on our school as it is our biggest fundraiser and only happens once every 1.5 to 2 years.

We need your help! We have several open positions in the Parent Association. This year we are seeking a Chair, Secretary, Board Members, Vice Chair, and extra help running the annual fundraisers. Please contact us if you are interested in making a big impact on your child’s school by helping with fundraising and deciding how our funds are allocated toward projects at the school - or attend our first meeting – September 18 following the Parent Council meeting.

More information on the Parent Association may be found at www.spbparentassociation.com or contact us at spbparentassociation@gmail.com
