Dear Parents and Guardians
We are happy to share with you that we were able to hire two new teachers to support our students this year: Sr. Companyo started as one of our new teachers and is teaching Social Studies, Design Studies, Phys Ed and Spanish Language Arts to several classes across grades. Sra. Sanchez will be starting as a new Grade 6 teacher next week and by opening an extra class in this grade group we were able to significantly reduce the classroom sizes for all Grade 6 classes. Starting next week, all new teachers will introduce themselves to you in The Week Ahead, one new teacher per week.
Have a great weekend.

SPB Students Explore Exciting STEM Careers at Women in Outdoors Event
Female SPB students from grades 8 and 9 recently participated in the annual Women in Outdoors Careers event at Jumping Ground, Kananaskis. This day fieldtrip highlighted a variety of exciting STEM-based professions, such as silviculture, conservation, environmental education, among others. Students had the chance to ask one-on-one questions to women working in these careers. They also had a chance to learn how to plant trees using radial spacing. Overall, they gained valuable insights into the day-to-day responsibilities and skills required for these roles.

Senator Patrick Burns Parent Association 2024/2025
Senator Patrick Burns has both a School Council and a Parent Association. The Parent Association is responsible for fundraising and distributing fundraising dollars for the school. All parents are welcome to attend our meetings. Meetings are typically held the third Wednesday of the month directly following the parent council meetings. They are virtual and usually short and sweet!
We are planning a great year to raise funds for ‘extras’ at the school. The money raised is used for items like physical education equipment, outdoor education equipment, classroom supports, and much more. We have been able to help with band instruments and the new basketball court. Your funds make a difference for the children at the school.
We are planning:
- Spolumbo’s / Coco Brooks in the fall and spring
- Christmas Flowers (Growing Smiles) in late fall
- Spring Flowers (Growing Smiles) in the spring
If you would like to donate to the parent association, but do not wish to participate in fundraisers, it is possible to write a cheque instead. Cheques would be made payable to: Senator Patrick Burns Parent Association. If you require a tax receipt, you will have to contact the school directly to donate through the Education Matters program.
Our next Casino will not be until 2025 at the earliest. Volunteering at the casino has a huge impact on our school as it is our biggest fundraiser and only happens once every 1.5 to 2 years.
