Dear Parents and Guardians

Students and staff were excited to be back in the building to meet their teachers and new classmates this week. There were some new faces (students and staff) and many more familiar ones. We received lots of positive comments about the new floors (see above) and are proud of all the advocacy of our students and the SPB Student Council who have been campaigning for this upgrade for a long time. We also realized that SPB is now a smaller school. No new Grade 6 students came to the building, and we have ten (!) teachers less compared to last year and our student population has gone down by more than 200 students. Whereas we are trying to offer the unique Orgullo Bronco Pride experience in all areas, a few of the activities that we were able offer in the past will not be available this year. We are excited to offer both boys’ and girls’ basketball but, unfortunately, we are not able to offer junior basketball teams this year. Furthermore, there will be no BroncoBots robotics club this year. We understand that not offering all clubs every year can be disappointing for students and parents, please keep a look out for the many clubs that we will be able to offer this year. We will finalize the list for next week and include it here in The Week Ahead. Finally, due to having no lunchroom supervisors this year, we will not be able to offer Fun Lunches unless we find a dedicated group of about five adults who would be willing to take on the organisation and distribution of the Fun Lunches. Please reach out to us if you can see yourself helping this way.

Have a great weekend.

Classroom List and Option Classes

As we embark on a new school year, we know that all students will be very excited to see their schedules and learn about which teachers they have for each of their classes and to discover which option courses they are scheduled to take over the course of the year. Our dedicated team of teachers have invested considerable effort into crafting balanced class lists that optimize learning opportunities and ensure a supportive educational environment. They consider a wide variety of factors when deciding on these lists and each student is very thoughtfully placed.

In addition to their core classes, the students will get to experience many different option courses over their time at Senator Patrick Burns school. We encourage you to discuss the upcoming school year with your child, emphasizing the value of embracing these new classes with an open mind and a positive attitude. Your support in helping them approach these opportunities with enthusiasm will be instrumental in their success and overall enjoyment of the school year. Please note that course or classroom changes are only made in consultation with the student, parents and guardians and administration team under exceptional circumstances. Thank you for your continued partnership in fostering a vibrant and enriching educational experience.

Cross Country Team

We’re excited to kick off another season—and we want YOU on the team!

Joining Cross Country is a great way to show your dedication, build endurance, and be part of a committed athletic community. Coaches across all sports recognize and value athletes who put in the work. If you're thinking about trying out for other teams, this is the perfect place to start.
