Sept. 25-29 | Homework, Spanish for Parents, Truth & Reconciliation, Walk to School Week
Dear Parents/Guardians
This week I was lucky enough to join the Outdoor Education Trip to the Marine Marine Science Centre in Bamfield, BC. We had 32 (very lucky) students who applied to come along on this trip, and they had the incredible opportunity to learn alongside scholars from leading universities in the West. We had opportunities to explore various academic disciplines and enjoy the wilderness and wildlife of the area. Thank you to Sr. Mason for organizing this amazing trip and Sra. Rojas and Webb for coming along to support. With the recent cancellation of the proposed Puerto Rico, we are working on finding different opportunities for our students to go on educational trips in the future.

Teacher Introductions
This week, please meet our new Grade 7 teacher, Sra. Arenas
Dear SPB community,
I'm thrilled to be joining the SPB family as the Grade 8 teacher for Spanish Language Arts and Humanities this year. My journey into education has been influenced by my early experiences in Canada. I arrived here when I was 15, and I immediately fell in love with the public education system offered in this country.
My passion for sociological topics and Latin American identities led me to pursue a Double Major in Spanish and Education with a minor in Sociology. I have always been a lifelong learner, especially when it comes to languages. During my university years, I studied German and dabbled in Russian. Over time, I also acquired the basics of Japanese to facilitate communication during my overseas trips.
I firmly believe that public education plays a pivotal role in fostering community relationships and creating a wealth of knowledge accessible to all. Building connections within the community, including parents, teachers, administration, and staff, is crucial for providing a solid support system for our students, ensuring they feel secure and valued in the classroom. My goal is to create a classroom community rooted in empathy, understanding, and a shared enthusiasm for learning and personal growth.
Outside of teaching, I enjoy watching films from different parts of the world, baking sweets, and creating art using different recycled materials.
I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the SPB community for the warm welcome and support. I am eagerly looking forward to the year ahead and am excited to be a part of this team!
Warm regards,
Prof. Graciela Arenas (They/Them)
