Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week, we have two Grade 9 groups out on Field trips. The band students are currently in Whistler, BC where they are taking part in the 26th Annual Con Brio Whistler Music Festival. This gives Band students the opportunity to measure themselves against other bands from all over Canada and the US. Often, this also helps students to decide if they want to continue with band in high school. The second trip is the annual Red River canoeing trip that Sr. Mason offers for the Outdoor Education students. As occurs every year, they have been extremely lucky with the weather and will have had the chance to learn more life skills during this trip. Both trips enable our students to engage in learning outside the classroom, deepen friendships, and broaden our students' horizons.  If you have children in Grade 8 – look out for the Southern Alberta Indigenous Learning Outdoor Education Trip that Sr. Mason is currently promoting.

Have a fantastic weekend and enjoy the warm weather and sunshine.

 Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal

Wellness Symposium

SPB Wellness

Dear parents, you are invited to share your expertise with our school community. On May 23rd our school will be hosting its annual Wellness Symposium, and we are looking for presenters with the goal of supporting the well-being of students and staff. Presentations can be in any format, talks, workshops, hands-on, etc. Sessions are scheduled to be 45-minutes in length and should aim to cover any of the eight dimensions of wellness; physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, financial, spiritual, and occupational. Presenters may choose between facilitating 1 to 4 sessions throughout the day between 8:40am-12:15pm. If you can support this initiative please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/nEnNccrB2WhQMCFcA or email Sra. Albertazzi at ibalbertazzi@cbe.ab.ca. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out as well.

Yearbook Club Sale is now closed

Thank you everyone for your support. Your Yearbooks will arrive in June.

Complimentary Course Sign Up is Coming at the end of this month

As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, it’s time for students to select their Top 5 complimentary course choices. Option courses are a fantastic way for students to explore interests beyond the core curriculum—whether it’s trying something completely new, building a skill, or discovering a hidden passion.

While we will do our very best to place each student in the courses they’ve selected, please note that placement is not guaranteed and depends on factors like class size, safety, scheduling, and overall demand. That’s why it’s important to approach this process with an open mind.

Junior high is the perfect time to try new things—even courses you may not have considered at first! Some of the best experiences come from stepping outside your comfort zone. You might just discover a talent or interest you didn’t know you had.

We’re excited to offer a wide range of engaging, hands-on complimentary courses, and we look forward to helping students make the most of their junior high journey.

The School Play is Looking for Donations!

The cast of Peter and the Starcatcher has been hard at work since January preparing our first school play, based on the hilarious and charming novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. As we assemble our sets and costumes, we are seeking the following donations, OR leads on where to find these on a minimal budget:

-            ONE dresser with drawers (do not have to match, can be weathered or in imperfect condition)

-            Aprons

-            Fabric in any/all textures and colour, will be used to sew mermaid tails.

If we have your permission to paint the dressers and/or coat rack, we would appreciate it, however if not, we will return them in the same condition. Cooking utensils will be labelled, used as props, and returned after the show closes at the beginning of June.

Thank you so much for your support, and please reach out to Paisley at pcnewburn@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions.

Heading Outdoors for Physical Education Classes – Appropriate Attire

We will regularly be heading outside for our PE units. Please ensure students dress appropriately for the weather, wear athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. Depending on the weather, bringing a sweater may also be a good idea. Thank you for your support!

Eco Broncos Update

Calling All Eco Leaders!

We are always looking for energetic and passionate students to join our Eco Broncos club. We meet every Thursday at lunchtime in the Learning Commons, and all students are welcome to be part of our mission to make SPB greener!

Lunch Kit Tip of the Week

Your Eco Broncos and Grade 7 Leadership would like to bring to your attention a huge environmental problem of food waste! WATCH THIS VIDEO

Do You Sew?

The crew of Peter and the Starcatcher would welcome your expertise! Our first school play requires a couple of costumes that are a bit more advanced than our tech team can manage, and we are searching for parents with some available time to help us construct these items. If you are available and interested in sharing your talents, please reach out to Paisley at pcnewburn@cbe.ab.ca for more details!
