Dear Parents and Guardians
For the second year, SPB students and Spanish teachers have been hard at work creating short films in Spanish. Their creativity, effort, and dedication really shone—what a way to showcase our language skills!
On Friday, May 9, we hosted our second SPB Gala, and the films were even more impressive than last year’s! Students loved seeing each other’s work on the big screen and sharing popcorn. Our filmmakers will represent SPB at the Festival de Cine en Español on June 3 at Crescent Heights High School.
A special highlight was a performance of La Cuichi de Sinaloa, led by student instructors Lilia and Evelyn. A big thank you to Emma Dardon for providing the beautiful outfits and supporting the dancers.
The Student Council organized the event and presented the Orgullo Bronco Pride Awards once again. It was wonderful to see students celebrating each other’s work and having fun with Spanish.
We’re so proud of the talent, teamwork, and spirit shown at this year’s SPB Gala. ¡Qué orgullo!

Wellness Symposium
Dear parents, you are invited to share your expertise with our school community. On May 23 our school will be hosting its annual Wellness Symposium, and we are looking for presenters with the goal of supporting the well-being of students and staff. Presentations can be in any format, talks, workshops, hands-on, etc. Sessions are scheduled to be 45-minutes in length and should aim to cover any of the eight dimensions of wellness; physical, emotional, social, intellectual, environmental, financial, spiritual, and occupational. Presenters may choose between facilitating 1 to 4 sessions throughout the day between 8:40am-12:15pm. If you can support this initiative please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/nEnNccrB2WhQMCFcA or email Sra. Albertazzi at ibalbertazzi@cbe.ab.ca. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out as well.
Complimentary Course Sign Up is Coming at the end of this month
As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, it’s time for students to select their Top 5 complimentary course choices. Option courses are a fantastic way for students to explore interests beyond the core curriculum—whether it’s trying something completely new, building a skill, or discovering a hidden passion.
While we will do our very best to place each student in the courses they’ve selected, please note that placement is not guaranteed and depends on factors like class size, safety, scheduling, and overall demand. That’s why it’s important to approach this process with an open mind.
Junior high is the perfect time to try new things—even courses you may not have considered at first! Some of the best experiences come from stepping outside your comfort zone. You might just discover a talent or interest you didn’t know you had.
We’re excited to offer a wide range of engaging, hands-on complimentary courses, and we look forward to helping students make the most of their junior high journey.
The School Play is Looking for Donations!
You might have heard the rumours and yes, it is true...our school play is opening in just a few weeks! Our students will be performing at Crescent Heights High School Theatre. The play, Peter and the Starcatcher, runs about 2 hours and 20 minutes, including an intermission.
There are several options to see the show:
1. Purchase a ticket to one of two evening performances, either on June 5 at 6pm or on June 6 and 6pm. Doors to the theatre will open at 5:30. Tickets are $10 and they can be purchased online at the following links:
- June 5: Get Tickets
- June 6: Get Tickets
Please note that each show has some cast differences in the lead and featured roles! Tickets at the door are not guaranteed, so we strongly recommend purchasing ahead of time to avoid disappointment.
2. Attend a 'pay-what-you-can' dress rehearsal on June 2 or June 4. Both performances start at 5:00pm, and the doors will open at 4:30. This is a dress rehearsal, so it is possible that some scenes will have to stop and re-start, but other than that, the play will run as scheduled with full costumes, sets, lights and sound.
Tickets are first-come, first-serve, and seats are open (festival seating). We ask that students plan ahead to arrive on-time, as the play will start promptly as scheduled so the evening does not run too late.
Thank you for your support of the arts at SPB and we look forward to seeing you at the show!
Heading Outdoors for Physical Education Classes – Appropriate Attire
We will regularly be heading outside for our PE units. Please ensure students dress appropriately for the weather, wear athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. Depending on the weather, bringing a sweater may also be a good idea. Thank you for your support!
