Dear Parents and Guardians,
This week, we had the privilege of welcoming Dalla Arcand and his daughter to our school. Here is a brief account of the event written by Sra. Panrucker.
Weaving Hoop Dancing and Indigenous Stories
This past Wednesday, every student at SPB had the honour to gather and witness outstanding Cree-style hoop dancing performed by the world-champion Cree artist Dallas Arcand. Historically, the power of ceremony has brought us together. However, “it was once considered to be illegal for Indigenous people to practice their ceremonies”, Mr. Dallas explained to our amazed students as he weaved his choreography with storytelling. This notion made this event more powerful for our students, who respectfully engaged in celebration and conversation to learn more about hoop dancing and indigenous cultures. I am sure that your child has already told you about this event – in case they haven’t - why don’t you ask them about what stood out to them in Dallas’ performance.
Have a great, sunny week. Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal
