SPB Weekly Jan 26 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

During our January School Council Meeting, we were able to present details about the proposed introduction of Video Surveillance Technology (VST) at SPB. Parents and guardians welcomed increased safety and security for students and staff but also raised concerns about data storage and safety and potential use of biometric data. The CBE states that the cameras do not record any sound and that there will be no use of facial recognition or biometric data. If you have any questions or concerns about VST at SPB, please contact me directly to discuss.

As we are concerned about the safety of our students at SPB at all times, I would like you to review the prohibited items that students are not allowed to bring to school: Personal Belongings. Unfortunately, we had to confiscate a few 3D printed butterfly knives which are illegal in Canada and must not be brought to school. The same goes for any toy guns or anything that could look like a weapon. Thank you for your support and understanding in this matter.

Kind regards,

Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal

Volleyball Student Spectator Reminders

All CBE Middle Schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect and a positive experience for players, coaches, other spectators and the hosting school. The expectations are as follows:

  • All students (spectators and athletes) must return home or be off school property in between the end of the school day at 2:55 PM and game start at 4:00 PM There is no supervision at the school provided and students are not able to remain at school in between.
  • Players who remain at the school must be under the direct supervision of the coach and not wandering in the school. This must be arranged in advance.
  • For all Away games, students must have their personal parent or guardian accompany them to all games. They may not be supervised by someone who is not their parent/guardian.
  • For all home games, students must be under the direct supervision of an adult for the entirety of the games.
  • There are no in and out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building you should not re-enter.
  • All visitors must enter our building through the main doors only. Entrance through an alternative door may trigger security protocols and result in significant consequences for students letting others in the school. This would be a significant security risk for everyone in the building.
  • Student spectators without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building immediately.
  • All spectators are expected to cheer and support the players, coaches, referees, etc. in a positive manner.
  • Disrespectful behavior from students or spectators will be addressed by the hosting school administration as well as your home school administration as a follow up. The student and parent code of conduct applies at all times. Spectators may be asked to leave the school depending on the severity of the issue. Parents also may be asked not to return.
  • Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible for direct supervision at all times. The rest of the school is closed and off limits. Please ensure children are not in the hallways or playing on the stage or with any school equipment.

Thank you for your attention to these expectations. Students have been informed as well today during announcements. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support and look forward to the best year yet for our athletics teams!
