Dear Parents and Guardians,
Volleyball practices have started and SPB will be fielding two teams (again, due to our reduction in staff and students). We are looking forward to the first matches at the end of this month. SPB welcomes students and families to all games but asks you to have close read of the league wide expectations for all students and parents/guardians attending any games. One of the key requests is that students are always supervised by their own parents at away games and an adult at home games. Please be mindful of these rules to avoid disappointment when your child wants to attend a SPB away game and will not be allowed into the gym by themselves.
Again, I would like to invite you to Wednesday’s School Council Meeting were I will be informing you about the introduction of Video Surveillance Technology (VST) at SPB in the near future. I will share an overview of the project and its benefits, talk about VST collection, use, access and controls, as well as request your feedback around benefits, concerns and further questions.
I look forward to seeing you at the next School Council Meeting (see Teams link below) and at the Volleyball home games.
Kind regards,
Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal

Volleyball Student Spectator Reminders
All CBE Middle Schools have set similar expectations for games that promote safety, respect and a positive experience for players, coaches, other spectators and the hosting school. The expectations are as follows:
- All students (spectators and athletes) must return home or be off school property in between the end of the school day at 2:55pm and game start at 4:00pm. There is no supervision at the school provided and students are not able to remain at school in between.
- Players who remain at the school must be under the direct supervision of the coach and not wandering in the school. This must be arranged in advance.
- For all Away games, students must have their personal parent or guardian accompany them to all games. They may not be supervised by someone who is not their parent/guardian.
- For all home games, students must be under the direct supervision of an adult for the entirety of the games.
- There are no in and out privileges for spectators. If you leave the building you should not re-enter.
- All visitors must enter our building through the main doors only. Entrance through an alternative door may trigger security protocols and result in significant consequences for students letting others in the school. This would be a significant security risk for everyone in the building.
- Student spectators without parental supervision will be directed by the hosting school administration to leave the building immediately.
- All spectators are expected to cheer and support the players, coaches, referees, etc. in a positive manner.
- Disrespectful behaviour from students or spectators will be addressed by the hosting school administration as well as your home school administration as a follow up. The student and parent code of conduct applies at all times. Spectators may be asked to leave the school depending on the severity of the issue. Parents also may be asked not to return.
- Parents/guardians who bring younger children are responsible for direct supervision at all times. The rest of the school is closed and off limits. Please ensure children are not in the hallways or playing on the stage or with any school equipment.
Thank you for your attention to these expectations. Students have been informed as well today during announcements. We thank you in advance for your ongoing support and look forward to the best year yet for our athletics teams!
SPB Grade 7 Volleyball Tournament
We are excited to announce that the SPB Grade 7 Volleyball Tournament will take place on Friday, January 23.
This event is the culminating activity for our Grade 7 students who signed up in December, and we are looking forward to a fun and rewarding experience for all participants.
Practice Schedule
To prepare for the tournament, practices will be held Monday through Thursday, January 19–22, from 3:00 to 4:00 PM.
Important Details
This is a no-cut event: all students who signed up are welcome to participate.
Due to the nature of this team sport, commitment is essential. Students are required to attend every practice session to ensure they can fully contribute to their team and participate in the tournament.
A $5 fee will be applied to each student’s PowerSchool account to help cover refreshments for the event.
We appreciate your support in encouraging your child to honor their commitment and make the most of this opportunity. If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to reach out to Sra. Bayona via email irbayona@cbe.ab.ca
