Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week, period product dispensers were installed in all girls’ bathrooms at SPB. Not having access to period products can affect the participation, concentration, confidence, and performance of menstruating students in the classroom, and students identified asking teachers or secretaries for period products as a barrier. The SPB Student Council worked together with a Calgary Startup Company called “Free PERIOD” to find a solution to this topic. One of their co-founders met with the student council several times and took feedback on their first dispenser model which was then incorporated in the final version that we now have at SPB. You can be very proud of the advocacy of SPB students (boys and girls) who brought this to teachers’ attention before the Student Council championed this topic so that we now have free period product dispensers in all girls’ washrooms in our school. That is Orgullo Bronco Pride in action.
