The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) is excited to be celebrating 25 years of its Spanish Bilingual Program, an initiative that has supported students in developing strong language skills in both English and Spanish since its introduction.

Over the past 25 years, the program has evolved beyond second-language instruction. It emphasizes cultural understanding, global awareness, and connections to diverse communities.

“The Spanish Bilingual Program isn’t just about learning a language,” says Chief Superintendent, Joanne Pitman. “It’s about connecting students to new cultures, new communities, and new perspectives, helping them build relationships that extend far beyond the classroom."

Since its inception, the Spanish Bilingual Program has inspired many students to develop a lifelong appreciation for language, learning, and cultural identity.
