Dear Parents and Guardian

I hope you all had a great summer and are enjoying the warm weather. Teachers will start preparing for the new year starting on Monday and we will open the doors to all students on Thursday, August 29, 2024, at 8:00 am with lessons starting at 8:25 am. Grade 6 students and parents who want to join us will meet for 8:30 am in the gym for a brief informal hello and introductions. Your Grade 6 homeroom teacher will connect with you next week and share more information for the first day.

After a couple of years planning, a dedicated time of student fundraising and with great support of the Parent Association, the new basketball court has been built over the summer. The backboards will be installed at the beginning of next week so that we can start playing when the school open next week.

We are planning to have the formal opening celebration on Friday, September 6, 2024, at 12:00 pm. Stay tuned for further updates.

Finally, as we embark on a new school year, I know that all students will be very excited to see their schedules and learn about which teachers they have for each of their classes and to discover which option courses they are scheduled to take over the course of the year. Our dedicated team of teachers have invested considerable effort into crafting balanced class lists that optimize learning opportunities and ensure a supportive educational environment. They consider a wide variety of factors when deciding on these lists and each student is very thoughtfully placed.

In addition to their core classes, the students will get to experience many different option courses over their time at Senator Patrick Burns school. We encourage you to discuss the upcoming school year with your child, emphasizing the value of embracing these new classes with an open mind and a positive attitude. Your support in helping them approach these opportunities with enthusiasm will be instrumental in their success and overall enjoyment of the school year. Please note that course or classroom changes are only made in consultation with the student, parents/guardians and administration team under exceptional circumstances.
