Dear Parents and Guardians,

This week, I had the privilege of accompanying the Grade 9 Band trip to Vancouver and the Kelowna Band Festival. Taking students outside of the classroom is always a wonderful enrichment of the curriculum and can lead to enhanced learning. Hearing our band perform in the festival and then receiving constructive criticism by an external conductor who was full of praise for our band (“holy moly, that brass section!”) meant a lot to the students and their fantastic band leader, Sr. Melchin. Another highlight of the trip was a performance in a Spanish speaking senior citizen retirement home in Vancouver where our students performed for one hour and delighted residents and staff of the home. It was a moment of Orgullo Bronco Pride to take SPB students into the Spanish Bilingual community and share their talents. I am sure that Grade 8 band students are already looking forward to their final band trip in Grade 9.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Sr. Ludwigsen, Principal

Birthday Celebrations at SPB

Starting next week, we will celebrate two months' worth of birthdays. To recognize all birthdays that will happen over the summer, we will celebrate birthdays in May and July together, later June and August. For example, our first double birthday week will be April 27 to May 3 and June 29 to July 5 birthdays. The birthday celebrations give us a chance to connect with all of our students and allows us to speak with them about their experience at SPB.

Wellness Symposium

Last call for presenters! We will stop accepting submissions for the Symposium on April 30. If you are interested in presenting, please submit your information before then.

Spanish Short Film Festival

We are thrilled to announce the inaugural Spanish Short Film Festival, set to take place on May 30th at Crescent Heights High School. This exciting event will showcase the creative talents of students from Senator Patrick Burns School, A.E. Cross School, Robert Warren School, Glenmeadows School and Crescent Heights High School. Short films, crafted in Spanish as part of Language Arts classes, will compete for awards including Best Film, Best Director, and Audience Choice. Two candidates from each grade, selected by a jury from Senator Patrick Burns School, will have the honor of representing their schools at Crescent Heights High School. This festival will be the perfect opportunity to celebrate the language skills and the artistic achievements of our students!

Art Opportunities

G.E.T.T.(Girls Exploring Trade and Technology) for students in grade 7-9 This year Sra. Herrera is one out of ten teachers selected in Alberta to participate a G.E.T.T Try a trade activity.

“The Girls Exploring Trades & Technologies (GETT) program is a celebration of women in trade and technology careers. Throughout the GETT program, girls will gain a new perspective and be motivated to open their minds to the diverse career paths available to them.”

Students will get the chance to test-drive careers and learn new skills through 4 different hands-on Try-A-Trade® Take-Out kits. Kits focus on careers in Sheet Metal, Woodworking, Aesthetics, and Refrigeration and include instructions and female-led tutorial videos. Each kit will include necessary materials and safety equipment for 25 students to complete all 4 activities.

This opportunity is going to run as club after school, and it is going to be first come first serve for the first 25, students’ parent emails, will have guarantee spot per activity.
