Dear Parents and Guardians
On April 22, Earth Day, we hosted our First Bronco Science Fair, and it was an incredible experience! We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the dedicated volunteers (staff and parents) who acted as our judges, our parent volunteer, Karilynn Simpson, who supported the SBP Science Club all year, our Science Learning Leader, Sr. Lopez Vasquez and especially and specially to our students who made this event possible. The quality of work displayed by our students, as well as their creativity, critical thinking, and passion truly showcased Orgullo Bronco Pride. The purpose of the fair was to provide students with the opportunity to pursue their interests and passions while making connections to science, but it goes way beyond that. We hope that by participating, students will remember that they can tackle challenging projects, and that their future is as bright as their desire for success! We are excited to see how our students will continue to surprise and inspire us in the future!

Complimentary Course Sign Up is Coming at the end of this month
As we prepare for the 2025–2026 school year, it’s time for students to select their Top 5 complimentary course choices. Option courses are a fantastic way for students to explore interests beyond the core curriculum—whether it’s trying something completely new, building a skill, or discovering a hidden passion.
While we will do our very best to place each student in the courses they’ve selected, please note that placement is not guaranteed and depends on factors like class size, safety, scheduling, and overall demand. That’s why it’s important to approach this process with an open mind.
Junior high is the perfect time to try new things—even courses you may not have considered at first! Some of the best experiences come from stepping outside your comfort zone. You might just discover a talent or interest you didn’t know you had.
We’re excited to offer a wide range of engaging, hands-on complimentary courses, and we look forward to helping students make the most of their junior high journey.
The School Play is Looking for Donations!
The cast of Peter and the Starcatcher has been hard at work since January preparing our first school play, based on the hilarious and charming novel by Dave Barry and Ridley Pearson. As we assemble our sets and costumes, we are seeking the following donations, OR leads on where to find these on a minimal budget:
- ONE dresser with drawers (do not have to match, can be weathered or in imperfect condition)
- Aprons
- Fabric in any/all textures and colour, will be used to sew mermaid tails.
If we have your permission to paint the dressers and/or coat rack, we would appreciate it, however if not, we will return them in the same condition. Cooking utensils will be labelled, used as props, and returned after the show closes at the beginning of June.
Thank you so much for your support, and please reach out to Paisley at pcnewburn@cbe.ab.ca if you have any questions.
Heading Outdoors for Physical Education Classes – Appropriate Attire
We will regularly be heading outside for our PE units. Please ensure students dress appropriately for the weather, wear athletic shoes, and bring a water bottle. Depending on the weather, bringing a sweater may also be a good idea. Thank you for your support!

Gauss Math Contest
We excited to share that our school is preparing for the Gauss Math Contest, a national competition for Grade 7 and 8 students created by the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing at the University of Waterloo. The contest is designed to challenge students and build their interest and confidence in math through engaging, thought-provoking problem-solving.
The contest will take place on May 14 at 11:15 a.m.
Students who are interested must register with their math teacher by April 22.
Do You Sew?
The crew of Peter and the Starcatcher would welcome your expertise! Our first school play requires a couple of costumes that are a bit more advanced than our tech team can manage, and we are searching for parents with some available time to help us construct these items. If you are available and interested in sharing your talents, please reach out to Paisley at pcnewburn@cbe.ab.ca for more details!

Request for Donations of Climbing Holds
We are excited to announce that we are planning to reset the walls in our climbing gym. To provide even more opportunities for our students, we aim to have two routes per wall. However, in order to achieve this, we are in need of additional climbing holds.
If you have any climbing holds (rocks) at home that you would be willing to donate to the school, we would greatly appreciate it. Your contribution will help us enhance the climbing experience for all students.
Thank you for your support, and please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
