Dear Parents and Guardians,
Parents and Guardians of students in the Spanish Bilingual Program know that one of our yearly highlights is the annual ¡Qué Pasa! performance at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. This year, we had students from our Spanish Club, lead by Sras. Sanchez, Sanchis, Santos and Moreno, contribute an exhilarating dance performance. Here is a report, written by one of our Spanish Club members and Student Council Presidents, Mykaela:
- Last Tuesday, we participated in ¡Qué Pasa! by performing a dance that originated in Nayarit, Mexico. This group of dancers is from our Spanish Club, who meet every week on Wednesdays. We have been practicing and preparing for the performance since December. Meanwhile, we had been recording and filming a short documentary about preparing for this dance. This documentary was shown at the recent Film Festival at Crescent Heights High School. The documentary showed the hard work the dancers put into learning and practicing the dance that would later be performed at ¡Qué Pasa!, as well as showing a little bit about what happens during practice and some of the struggles we had to overcome. After a few weeks of practice, we tried on our outfits, and a parent volunteer was kind enough to help supply the dancers’ costumes and accessories. Furthermore, all the dancers were taught the dance by two of our students here at SPB. The day at ¡Qué Pasa! was a full day of rehearsing, watching, and performing. The dance was a great success, and the dancers did an amazing job multitasking and representing SPB at ¡Qué Pasa!
Wishing you a restful May Long Weekend.
